Delicious and creamy artisan Gozo Deli casheese is the stuff that vegan cheese and cracker dreams are made of. Read on for my review and the chance to win a set of cheeses from the range.
Since transitioning to a fully vegan diet, I’ve been surprised by how little I have missed cheese. Part of this is down to my mindset and changed attitude towards dairy. Another part of this is down to how far vegan cheese has come over the years.
As well as all the wonderful options out there for homemade vegan cheese, there are now some amazing brands out there creating seriously tasty vegans cheese too.
I recently tried out some of Gozo Deli‘s selection of organic artisan “casheese” – an alternative to cream cheese, made from activated cashew nuts and live cultures. Gozo Deli came about in 2014 after their founder, Lydia Davidson, realised that there was nothing on the market like the delicious nut-based cheeses she was making at home.
The cashew cream cheeses come in four flavours:
- Smoked paprika
- French herbs
- Basil Pesto
They make a nice easy alternative to homemade vegan cashew cheese, especially if you don’t have a high-powered food processor. The texture is creamy and spreads easily onto crackers. My favourite flavour had to be the smoked paprika, which went down a treat with oatcake crackers (admittedly though, it would have been even better paired with a glass of vegan-friendly red wine!)
All of the cheeses as lactose, soya, gluten and preservative-free. You would never guess that the Gozo Deli cheeses are made from nuts, or that they’re dairy-free at all. They were also a hit with my non-vegan friends and with Pete who doesn’t like nuts at all usually!
