Tarmigan

If you’ve been around here for long, you might have noticed my love of animals and in particular, cats. Well, today I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to my new fluffy little buddy, Tarmigan. He became part of our family a little over a month ago and is a very sociable and loving little fellow. Did I mention how handsome he is?

I also wanted to share these as I’ve been making a conscious effort to improve my technical photography skills lately (more on that in an upcoming post) and feel like I’m getting close to capturing his beauty. Luckily, the new house is blessed with far better natural light than my previous place making it much more possible to shoot indoors.Golden Tabby Siberian Cat Golden Tabby Siberian Cat Golden Tabby Siberian CatGolden Tabby Siberian Cat Golden Tabby Siberian Cat

London Finds: Jimbobart, Shoreditch

Located just on Cheshire Street, just off Brick Lane, is Jimbobart. I stumbled across Jimbobart whilst taking an easy Saturday afternoon stroll around the area, drawn in by the smartly dress and characterful animals in the window.

Created by designer and illustrator James Ward, the Jimbobart store showcases his work through prints and ceramics. The store itself is also decorated with dapper animals… well and the one bear who turned up to the party in just his pants. I immediately fell in love with the expressive animals depicted in his work and have to share them with you. I’m already wishing I’d picked up some of the stacked coffee cups – how great would they look on a kitchen shelf?

Butterflies of Butterfly House

Yesterday I shared some photos from my visit to the Butterfly House in South Yorkshire. Today I have plenty more, this time from inside the butterfly house itself. It was a perfect opportunity to take some macro shots, something I always enjoy. The humidity did steam my lens up now and then though!Beautiful Butterfly at the Butterfly HouseFlowers at the Butterfly HouseLeafcutter Ants at the Butterfly House Butterfly Small flower on a wet leafButterfly on a hanging flower Tropical Bird Translucent Butterfly Butterfly at the Butterfly HouseBlue Frog Small Butterfly Iguana Do you enjoy macro photography? The Butterfly House

Located in North Aston, about half an hour outside of Sheffield, the Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre is one of those gems you rarely hear about. Or at least, I (as someone who used to live in Sheffield) had never heard of it until last year.

The Butterfly House has lots to see both indoors and out. Inside a tropical area is full of butterflies, exotic birds and leafcutter ants and reminds me of many a place I went as a kid. Hot and humid, this part is also home to beautiful flowers, reptiles and some creepy crawlies (I skipped the spidery part…). There is a lot more than just butterflies here though and outdoors we found all sorts, in fact I was impressed by how many different animals there are. I also liked how, when approaching an enclosure, you could never be quite sure what you would find as some rather unlikely animals were coupled up: meerkats and porcupines dwell together and a skunk, an angora rabbit, a prairie dog and some mara lodge side-by-side.

As a lot of the areas are outside it was lovely to be there on a mild sunny afternoon. At £8.95 for adult entry, I was pleased that there was so much to see; we spent an entire afternoon wandering around and, as you can see, taking a lot of snaps. I would imagine it’s a perfect family place – but to be honest it’s ideal for anyone who loves animals as I think my boyfriend and I enjoyed it just as much. This is of course a perfect excuse to share some animal photos – today I’m sharing some of the ones I spotted outside and tomorrow I’ll give you a peek from the inside.Tortoise at the Butterfly House Owl at the Butterfly House Meerkats at the Butterfly House Butterfly House Owl Very Fluffy Rabbits at the Butterfly HouseOwl Butterfly HouseLemur at the Butterfly House Butterfly HouseButterfly House MeerkatEating Lemurs at the Butterfly HouseMara at the Butterfly House Butterfly House Owl close-up

A Snapshot of Mostar: The Little Things

As has become customary, to follow up yesterday’s views of Mostar these are some of the little things I witnessed on my trip…

On the way to Mostar, we stopped off at Medjugorje. Now I wasn’t actually expecting to stop here as it wasn’t listed on the itinerary of our tour (part of the reason I chose that one…) but there you go. As it turned out, whilst I wouldn’t say it was a great place to visit, and definitely not for more than say ten minutes (we were there for at least an hour), it did have a certain fascination. Allegedly the site of holy apparitions in the early 1980s, Medjugorje  is now a popular pilgrimage destination. Shop after shop selling every possible Holy Mary memorabilia you could possibly imagine are the mainstay of the town.Mostar (1) Mostar (2)

Mostar (4) Mostar (5) Mostar (8)Mostar (11)We dined at Sadrvan as it had a decent amount of interesting veggie dishes (you can view their menu online here). In a quest to try as much as I possibly could, I ordered polenta with cheese and yoghurt, and Duvec, a dish of rice and vegetables, accompanied by a local beer. Set in a pretty garden, the best thing about coming here was waiting for me on my seat when I arrived…Mostar (6) Mostar (7) Mostar (9) Mostar (10)

The food was delicious by the way… Have you ever tried Bosnian food? Any recipes to share!?
