Morocco Diary: Cats of Morocco

If there is one constant when travelling in Morocco, it is surely the cats. Roaming almost every street, and dotted around in some of the most unlikely places, cats are everywhere in Morocco. There seems to be a mutual respect between the resident people and resident cats; we saw plenty of food and fresh water being left out for them. Most of the cats looked very healthy which is lovely to see and I couldn’t resist snapping as many as possible.

Here is a selection of the felines I spotted: (photo heavy)

I love this post! I always worry/wonder about how well resident cats are taken care of in different countries. In America, they are usually ignored, captured + brought to an animal shelter, or brought in as a pet, but I never knew how they were treated elsewhere. It warmed my heart to learn that in Morocco they seem well-respected + are taken care of! They all look so happy + healthy :)

It was nice to see so many healthy-looking cats as sometimes if there are lots around they seem to be treated as pests in some countries. But I saw a few heart-warming moments of people looking after ones that didn’t look so healthy which was very reassuring :)

I went to Marrakech and Essaouira. You should definitely go if you get chance! There’s so much to see…not just cute cats ;)

ha! Love it. I just got back from Morocco on Saturday, and am so happy to be reunited with tofu.

I saw your blog title being linked from ThymeAndHoney, so I thought I’d have a look. And now there are all sorts of wonderful coincidences! Looking forward to exploring further.

I am missing much of the food of Essaouira… and also the cats (they’re so big!) :)

Hi Megan, thanks for stopping by :) One of the things I love most about blogging and reading blogs is how many new blogs you discover through it. It looks like you had all kinds of adventures in West Africa, I’m looking forward to following your blog too and reading more!

<3 :) I don't consider myself anywhere close to good when it comes to animal photography. Strange thing, I encountered quite a few on my trips.

Aw I think it just takes a bit of practise and finding some good animal models who will sit still for long enough – sleeping cats are a perfect place to start!
